Polydopamine Nanoplates Combined With cfDNA To Alleviate Alveolar Bone Resorption
The aim of this study is to explore the potential of polydopamine (PDA) nanoplates in binding circulating free DNA (cfDNA) and their role in reducing alveolar bone resorption in periodontitis. PDA nanoplates were synthesized and assessed for their ability to bind cfDNA and modulate inflammatory cytokine release. In vitro, we examined the interaction between PDA nanoplates and cfDNA, their effects on osteoclast differentiation, and their anti-inflammatory properties. A murine periodontitis model was used to evaluate the impact of PDA nanoplates on alveolar bone resorption. PDA nanoplates effectively adsorbed cfDNA and inhibited cfDNA-induced osteoclast activation. The nanoplates also reduced inflammatory cytokines, including IL-18 and TNF-α. In the animal model, PDA nanoplates significantly decreased alveolar bone resorption and alleviated periodontal inflammation. PDA nanoplates, through their ability to bind cfDNA, effectively reduce alveolar bone resorption associated with periodontitis. This demonstrates their potential as a novel nanomedicine approach for treating periodontitis, offering anti-inflammatory and bone-protective effects with promising clinical applications.
