Digital Technique Assistance For Rehabilitation Worn Dentition Complicated By Osteoarthrosis
This study demonstrates the application of digital technology to achieve precise transfer of occlusal relationships and rehabilitation of a case with severely wore dentition and defection complicated by osteoarthrosis. A 73-year-old female patient sustained multiple missing teeth in both the upper and lower jaws, severe wear of the remaining teeth for over ten years, affecting both eating and appearance. shortened lower facial height, and inadequate exposure of the upper incisors during smiling. The patient also suffered from temporomandibular joint osteoarthritis and chondroma. Treatment: Jaw movement analysis was conducted to determine the vertical distance to be elevated and the jaw position. After wearing an occlusal splint denture for 3 months, diagnostic temporary prostheses were applied for more than 3 months. Once the patient adapted to its function and satisfied with aesthetics, the form of temporary prostheses was replicated onto the final prostheses using digital replication technology. The final prostheses achieved both good functionality and aesthetics. The patient reported no discomfort during follow-ups at 6 months, 1 year, and 3 years, and there were no significant changes in joint structures and chondroma. Utilizing a jaw movement analysis system, virtual articulator, and digital replication technology, the final prostheses were made by replicating functionally and aesthetically suitable temporary prostheses . This approach enabled precise recording and transfer of occlusion relationships. a patient with worn dentition and temporomandibular joint disorders can obtain good therapeutic effect through occlusion reconstruction via precise transfer of the occlusion relationship and digital replication technology.
