Stem Biomimetic CAD/CAM Glass Fibre Resin For Post-Cores
To introduce a thermoset technique for the fabrication of stem biomimetic milled CAD/CAM glass fibre-reinforced resin composite (FRC) and to assess its mechanical and cytotoxicity properties. The milled CAD/CAM FRC discs were manufactured by glass fibre prepreg fabrics containing different mass fraction of epoxy resin (23, 33, 43 wt.%) which were cured by heat. Mechanical properties were determined, including hardness, flexural strength and modulus of elasticity. A chair-side CAD/CAM integrated FRC made by pultrusion approach was used as control. Posts were subjected to bond strength test and light transmission test. Cytotoxicity of the posts was assessed. Flexural strength of this milled FRC containing 23 wt.% resin showed highest flexural strength (1011.62 ± 39.63 MPa). Modulus of elasticity of the GFR composite with 33 wt.% epoxy resin (19.56 ± 0.55 GPa) was closed to that of dentin. The bond strength and light transmission of milled FRC were not different from that in control. Stem biomimetic CAD/CAM FRC disc fabricated by thermoset manner showed favorable mechanical characteristics when the resin content is 33 wt.%. Such FRC is eligible to manufacture CAD/CAM dental post-and-cores.
