Development Of Novel Multifunctional Dental Adhesive With Fa And Nag
This study synthesized 4-formylphenyl acrylate (FA), capable of chemically binding to dentin collagen, and incorporated in-situ-synthesized antibacterial silver nanoparticles (NAg) to develop an experimental adhesive. The aim was to evaluate its antibacterial efficacy, bonding performance, and inhibitory effects on MMPs, offering a novel strategy to enhance dentin bonding stability. Silver nanoparticle dispersion was analyzed via scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The curing performance was assessed using double-bond conversion rates, while hydrophobicity was evaluated via static water contact angle tests. Antibacterial activity was tested against Streptococcus mutans using MTT assay, colony counting, live/dead staining, and SEM. Bonding performance was examined through microtensile strength tests (immediate and aged), fracture mode analysis, and nanoleakage tests. Resin tag morphology at the bonding interface was observed via SEM, and collagenase activity in the hybrid layer was quantified using in situ zymography. 1.NAg exhibited uniform dispersion without compromising adhesive conversion rates. FA modification increased hydrophobicity. 2.The FA-Ag adhesive significantly inhibited S. mutans metabolic activity, reduced colony-forming units, improved micro-tensile strength, minimized nanoleakage and demonstrated well-formed hybrid layers and resin tags. 3.The FA-Ag group suppressed MMPs activity. The FA-Ag-modified adhesive exhibits potent antibacterial properties, enhanced bond strength, and suppressed MMPs activity, making it a promising candidate for durable resin-dentin adhesion.
