A Human-Centered Digital Assistant In Dentistry

To develop and evaluate an AI-powered digital solution that addresses clinical oversights and improves both practitioner efficiency and patient understanding in dental care. A voice-recognition and AI-based platform designed to automate clinical documentation and deliver personalized, multilingual educational content. The MVP was deployed in pilot general dental and periodontal practices over a three-month period. No patient data migration was required. Practitioners tested features including AI-driven transcription, interactive checklists, automated treatment summaries, and care-at-home follow-up tools. Data protection complies with health data regulations. No ethical approval was required as no patient-identifiable data was collected. A 40% reduction in time spent on administrative documentation. Improved treatment adherence and patient understanding, reported qualitatively by clinicians. High acceptability due to zero setup for patients and no extra workload for practitioners. This digital assistant addresses a key gap in dental care by integrating human factor design, including an interactive checklist to reduce omissions and standardize consultations. Its dual benefit—serving both patients and professionals—makes it more than a transcription tool: it becomes a true clinical assistant. Simpler than an app, it requires no download from patients and promotes care continuity at home, improving preventive care and easing pressure on dental teams. This solution offers a scalable, innovative approach for modern, patient-centered dentistry.
