Linear Accuracy Of Stackable Stereolithographic Templates For Veneer Preparation

This study aims to compare the linear accuracy of veneer preparation using free-hand (FH), silicone guides (SG), a cross-shape stereolithographic template (ST_P) and stackable stereolithographic templates (ST_C). Forty 3D printed maxillary dental models were randomly divided into four veneer preparation groups (n=10). Each group underwent preparation of a butt-joint veneer on the left central incisor using the assigned technique. The trueness of the reduction depths was determined by calculating the mean absolute differences (MADs) from the planned depth at eight designated points. Precision was determined by the standard deviation (SD). The differences among groups were analyzed using one-way ANOVA, followed by Bonferroni post hoc test. The significant value was set at 0.05. ST_C showed a significantly lower MAD than FH at most of the measured points (p<0.05). Additionally, ST_C showed more accurate incisal reduction at mesial and distal points compared to ST_P (p<0.001) and higher accurate mesial (p=0.011) and distal (p=0.001) cervical margins preparation than SG. ST_C was the most precise tooth reduction technique, exhibiting the lowest SD among the four groups. Veneer preparation guided by stackable stereolithographic templates resulted in the most accurate tooth reduction depths compared to the other techniques.
