Enhancing Dental Composite Resins With BNST And Silicon Dioxide
To study the enhancement of Bis-GMA/TEGDMA dental composite resin by mixed filling of boron nitride submicron tubes (BNST) with surface-loaded boron nitride nanosheets (BNNS) and silicon dioxide (SiO2), and to investigate the optimal filling amount of BNST. Bisphenol a diglycidyl methacrylate (Bis-GMA), triethylene glycol dimethacrylate (TEGDMA), BNST, and SiO2. BNST and 15 wt% SiO2 were used to reinforce the dental composite resin based on Bis-GMA and TEGDMA. The resulting composite resins, denoted as the x-BNST/SiO2@Bis-GMA/TEGDMA, where x refers to the mass fraction of BNST (0.1 wt%-0.5 wt%), was tested for flexural strength (FS), compressive strength (CS) and vickers hardness (VH). The biosafety evaluation and curing depth test were also performed. The 0.2-BNST/SiO2@Bis-GMA/TEGDMA exhibited the best mechanical properties, with its flexural strength and compressive strength increasing by 24.30% and 33.14% respectively compared to the 0-BNST/SiO2@Bis-GMA/TEGDMA. The SEM results showed that the BNST of 0.2-BNST/SiO2@Bis-GMA/TEGDMA was uniformly filled in the resin and SiO2 mixtures with good interfacial compatibility. Both the biosafety and the curing depth of 0.2-BNST/SiO2@Bis-GMA/TEGDMA met international standards. The x-BNST/SiO2@Bis-GMA/TEGDMA material has important applications or potential in the field of dental composite resin restoration of teeth.
