Surface-Modified Porous Ti Via Epd For Oral

Titanium-based implants are susceptible to bacterial contamination from skin and mucosa during surgery, leading to implantation failure. Therefore, optimizing the surface design of titanium implants to endow them with both antibacterial properties and osteogenic capabilities is crucial for the development of titanium-based orthopedic materials. In this study, a chitosan-based coating incorporating bioactive glass nanofibers was fabricated on porous tutanium implants via EPD. Modified chitosan was used as the electrophoretic solution. First, the effects of EPD parameters and chitosan concentration on coating thickness and uniformity were investigated to obtain surface-modified porous tutanium implants with varying chitosan concentrations. The composition, structure, and morphology of the coatings were characterized. Subsequently, the cytocompatibility, antibacterial efficacy, and osteointegration capacity of the coatings were evaluated. A uniform coating was achieved under the following conditions: bioactive glass concentration of 0.5 mg/mL, EPD voltage of 70 V, and deposition time of 20 s. Using these optimized parameters, chitosan coatings containing bioactive glass were successfully prepared at different concentrations of EPL-modified chitosan, as confirmed by electron microscopy. Both in vitro and in vivo experiments demonstrated that the surface-modified titanium implants were non-toxic, exhibited excellent cytocompatibility, and possessed significant antibacterial and osteointegration capabilities. The porous tutanium implants modified via EPD coating exhibit superior antibacterial performance and enhanced osteointegration, demonstrating promising potential for applications in dental medicine.
