Survey On Tooth Bleaching Awareness Among University Students In Zhengzhou
To investigate the knowledge and awareness of tooth bleaching and the possible influencing factors among university students in Zhengzhou. A questionnaire on the knowledge and awareness of tooth bleaching was designed and a survey was conducted among sampled university students in Zhengzhou in year 2022. Reliability and validity were evaluated for the questionnaire. Non-parametric test was used for sub-group data comparison. Data analysis was done by SPSS 23.0. A total of 448 valid questionnaires was collected, nearly half of the students were boys; 32.6% of the students needed bleaching, while a lot more (86.2%) expressed willingness, out of which 91.7% was appearance-driven; their knowledge mainly came from the Internet (78.6%), dentists (51.3%), and peers/family (42.0%). The questionnaire demonstrated acceptable reliability (Cronbach’s α= 0.650) and was suitable (KMO=0.875, p=0.000) for exploratory factor analysis, which identified six domains of factors. Females scored higher on normal perception (p=0.005) and impact (p=0.034); diploma students scored lowest on normal perception (p<0.05) and professional dependence (p<0.01); students from high-economic families prioritized technical expertise more (p=0.017); students major in natural/social science care more on technique efficacy (p=0.011), professional dependence (p=0.049), and color impact (p=0.001) than others in subgroup comparison. The students exhibit high interest and willingness toward tooth bleaching but demonstrate cognitive gaps and knowledge disparities among subgroups. Their information sources remain challenged.
