Liquid Zirconia Endocrown For Anterior Tooth Restoration
This case highlights a novel digital workflow for restoring a severely damaged anterior tooth using a liquid 3D-printed zirconia endocrown, offering a post-free, esthetic alternative to conventional techniques. A 32-year-old male presented with a fractured maxillary lateral incisor. After re-root canal and periodontal therapy, a post-free preparation was performed with a 1-mm shoulder and a 3-mm-deep pulp chamber, reinforced with flowable resin (Flow Plus; SHOFU). A fully digital workflow was applied, including intraoral scanning (Primescan; Dentsply Sirona), CAD design (3Shape), and virtual patient simulation. The final zirconia endocrown was fabricated via liquid 3D printing (ACJ; Thales), then sintered, stained, and bonded using resin cement (RelyX™ Ultimate TR; 3M ESPE). At the 2-year follow-up, the restoration showed excellent esthetics, biological stability, and marginal fit (0.02 mm deviation), demonstrating the clinical viability of post-free, 3D-printed zirconia endocrowns. The root bifurcation was ideal for 3D-printed restoration, ensuring optimal marginal closure. The post-free design offers mechanical support to restore dentin lost because of RCT or trauma, preserving healthy dentin. CAD/CAM endocrowns on nonvital incisors without a ferrule enhance resistance and failure mode compared to traditional bonded post-and-core crown. This method extends tooth longevity, making 3D-printed zirconia endocrowns a reliable option for anterior teeth with significant defects. A liquid 3D-printed zirconia endocrown provided a customized, post-free, esthetic, and minimally invasive restoration for a significant defect.
