Orthodontic Treatment Impact On Quality Of Life In Adults
To assess the impact of orthodontic treatment on the oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) in adults. A total of 122 adults (aged 18-45 years) undergoing orthodontic treatment were included in the study. OHRQoL was measured using the Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-14) before and after 6 months of active treatment. Participants also completed a questionnaire on oral hygiene habits, treatment satisfaction, and general health. Clinical assessments included malocclusion severity and plaque index. After 6 months of orthodontic treatment, OHRQoL scores significantly decreased from 19.2 ± 4.5 to 12.7 ± 3.2 (p < 0.001), indicating an improvement in quality of life. The greatest improvement was seen in patients with severe malocclusion at the start of treatment. Patients who adhered to proper oral hygiene practices had better treatment outcomes (p = 0.004). Additionally, 85% of participants reported satisfaction with their orthodontic treatment. Orthodontic treatment significantly improves oral health-related quality of life in adults, especially for those with severe malocclusion. Maintaining good oral hygiene during treatment is crucial for achieving optimal results.
