Alternating Sequences Imidazolium-Based Copolymers For Eradication Of Bacterial Biofilms

This study postulates the potential of imidazolium-based main-chain copolymers, systematically tailored in their sequences, to serve as a promising candidate in combatting drug-resistant bacterial infections. The study utilized advanced antimicrobial polymeric materials, incorporating modified macromolecular structures for biomedical applications. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were employed for morphological characterization, while Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analyzed chemical composition and crystallinity. Antimicrobial efficacy was assessed using bacterial inhibition zone tests and colony-forming unit (CFU) counting, while biofilm resistance was evaluated via crystal violet staining. Biocompatibility was examined through cytotoxicity assays (MTT, live/dead staining) and hemolysis tests. Histological and immunohistochemical analyses investigated tissue responses, and molecular probes were used to explore antimicrobial mechanisms. Statistical significance was determined using one-way ANOVA and Student’s t-tests, ensuring rigorous data validation. The study confirmed that the antimicrobial polymeric material exhibited strong bacterial inhibition, significantly reducing colony formation and biofilm development. Biocompatibility assessments, including cytotoxicity and hemolysis tests, demonstrated minimal adverse effects on mammalian cells, ensuring its safety for biomedical applications. Statistical analysis validated the material’s enhanced antimicrobial efficiency and stability, highlighting its potential for use in medical implants and infection-resistant coatings. The study highlights a biocompatible antimicrobial polymer with strong bacterial resistance, offering promising applications in medical implants and infection control.
