Correlation Analysis Of Dentin Sensitivity Assessment Methods

This study was to investigate the correlation between two methods of assessing dentin sensitivity before and at 3 and 6 weeks after the use of anti-sensitivity toothpaste. Sixty-eight patients with tooth and neck sensitivity participate in a 6-week randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial and randomly assigned to the antisensitive toothpaste group (n=33) versus the blank control group (n=35). Determination of dentin sensitivity in the cervical region of the tooth using the Yeaple electronic pressure sensitive probe and the Schiff scale. Tests were performed at 0, 3 and 6 weeks, the data were correlated using Spearman's coefficient. Experimental group: low correlation between baseline Schiff scale and Yeaple Electronic Pressure Probe (R=-0.363, P=0.038),low correlation after 3 weeks (R=-0.464, P=0.006),moderate correlation after 6 weeks (-0.516, P=0.002). Control: low correlation between two methods (R=-0.367, P=0.03),low correlation after 3 weeks of correlation (R=-0.385, P=0.023),low correlation after 6 weeks (-0.435, P=0.009). Tooth sensitivity symptoms improved in the experimental group, the Yeaple Electronic Pressure Probe and the Schiff scale showed a higher concordance in the assessment of sensitivity compared to the control group where the correlation remained at a low correlation level, further confirming that the concordance between the two methods of assessment increased with the decrease in tooth sensitivity.

Sixty-eight patients with tooth and neck sensitivity participate in a 6-week randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial and randomly assigned to the antisensitive toothpaste group (n=33) versus the blank control group (n=35). Experimental group: low correlation between baseline Schiff scale and Yeaple Electronic Pressure Probe (R=-0.363, P=0.038),low correlation after 3 weeks (R=-0.464, P=0.006),moderate correlation after 6 weeks (-0.516, P=0.002). Control: low correlation between two methods (R=-0.367, P=0.03),low correlation after 3 weeks of correlation (R=-0.385, P=0.023),low correlation after 6 weeks (-0.435, P=0.009).
