"New Sausage Technique For Large Maxillary Sinus Perforations"

In the lateral window maxillary sinus floor elevation procedure, maxillary sinus membrane perforation is a common complication. Among them, the treatment of large-scale sinus membrane perforations is quite challenging. This article aims to introduce a new perforation repair technique. In this technique, a collagen membrane is placed across the window, both inside and outside, and fixed to the medial wall of the maxillary sinus with titanium screws to fully cover the bottom of the maxillary sinus membrane. After the bone augmentation material is inserted, the collagen membrane is folded along the lateral window to wrap the graft material, and then fixed to the lateral wall of the maxillary sinus or the alveolar ridge crest. The final formed shape is similar to the "sausage technique". This method enhances the stability of the collagen membrane, effectively ensures the blood supply to the bone augmentation material area, enables reliable repair of large and complete perforations of the maxillary sinus membrane, and increases the success rate of simultaneous bone grafting. The "Sausage Technique" effectively repairs large maxillary sinus membrane perforations by stabilizing a collagen membrane with titanium screws, ensuring graft blood supply, and improving simultaneous bone grafting success.
