A Case Of Necrotizing Sialometaplasia In The Palatal Region

Necrotizing sialometaplasia is a rare disease that is easily confused with other diseases. Therefore, mastering the knowledge of the disease is significant for correct diagnosis and treatment. A younger women, presented with pain in the left upper posterior tooth with palatal swelling for 2 weeks; Later ulceration appeared in the center of the swollen area; Recently, the swelling has become more extensive. 26 and 27 showed no abnormalities. A lesion approximately 1.8×1.1×0.5cm can be seen on the 26 and 27 palatal sides. An ulcer approximately 0.5×0.5cm can be seen on the surface of the lesion, with obvious tenderness; And a fistula around 0.2cm can be seen on the lesion. Spiral CT considered abscess in the left upper palate area. It has been decided to perform a palatal lesion resection under local anesthesia. The excised tissue was sent for pathological examination, which showed that the lesion was consistent with necrotizing sialometaplasia. Generally speaking, the treatment of this disease is mainly conservative because it is self-limiting. In addition, the use of low-intensity laser can shorten the healing cycle and reduce pain. In this case, considering that the ulcer has been present for more than two weeks without healing, a resection is performed, and achieve a better prognosis. Surgical treatment can completely eliminate the lesion, and pathological examination can clarify the diagnosis, therefore achieve the purpose of early diagnosis and treatment, and provide a new idea for the disease.
