Dental Caries Among Middle-Aged And Elderly People In Henan
To investigate the current situation of caries prevalence in the middle-aged and elderly people in Henan Province, so as to provide necessary data for the targeted management of the disease in these populations. According to the requirements of the National Health Commission for the monitoring of the oral health status of key populations in China, in 2021, a total of 791 urban and rural residents of Henan Province in two index age groups, 35 to 44 years old and 65 to 74 years old, were sampled using a multi-stage sampling method at 13 disease surveillance sites across the province. Oral examinations and questionnaires were conducted on the sample population. In Henan Province, the prevalence of caries of permanent teeth in people aged 35 to 44 and 65 to 74 years was 89.4% and 96.0%, respectively, the mean DMFT was 3.87 and 12.20, respectively, and the ratio of filled teeth was 27.8% and 11.7%, respectively. The root caries prevalence was 11.6% and 37.9%, respectively, and the mean DFR score was 0.14 and 0.98, respectively. The prevalence of dental caries is relatively high among middle-aged and elderly people in Henan province. To promote the ability of these groups to maintain their oral health, oral health popularization should be strengthened for the key populations.
