Study Of Whisker-Reinforced Glass-Ceramics Bonding And Tribological Properties
Lithium disilicate (Li2Si2O5) glass ceramics possess excellent aesthetic properties and good mechanical properties, but high brittleness and low fracture toughness are now their clinical applications. In this study, the mechanical properties of Li2Si2O5 glass ceramics were improved to extend their application in dental restorations. In this study, whiskers were added to Li2Si2O5 glass to prepare whisker-reinforced Li2Si2O5 glass-ceramics by reaction sintering. The bond strength of Li2Si2O5 glass-ceramics with different acid-etching times was tested, and its friction properties were evaluated. The whisker-reinforced Li2Si2O5 glass-ceramics could reach the optimum bond strength (32.381±5.316 MPa) with the resin after 120 s of acid etching, and the bond strength (28.614±1.322 MPa) of commercial Li2Si2O5 glass-ceramics (UP.CAD) could be reached at 100 s of acid etching. The coefficient of friction, depth of abrasion and wear volume of whisker-reinforced Li2Si2O5 glass-ceramics were not statistically different from those of commercialized glass-ceramics. In this study, whisker-reinforced Li2Si2O5 glass-ceramics were prepared, and the bond strength of multi-scale crystal-reinforced Li2Si2O5 glass-ceramics reached the maximum after 120 s of HF acid etching. At the same time, the friction and wear properties were investigated, and the wear resistance could reach the standard of commercialized Li2Si2O5 glass ceramics under the same conditions. This provides a laboratory basis for the clinical application of multi-scale crystal-reinforced Li2Si2O5 glass-ceramics.
