Three-Dimensional Analysis Of Influence Of Slow Maxillary Expansion
The purposes of this study were to evaluate the effect of slow maxillary expansion with a removable expansion appliance and analyze the changes in the three-dimensional space and eruption path of maxillary canines and premolars by a comparative analysis of three-dimensional reconstruction of CBCT before and after expansion. A total of 50 subjects were included in this study, 1 withdrew, and 49 actual subjects were included. The treatment group comprised 29 subjects, consisting of 12 males and 17 females, with an age of (7.88±0.16) years. The control group comprised 20 subjects, including 9 males and 11 females with an average age of (8.02±0.11) years. 1.The effect of slow maxillary expansion: The arch width, arch perimeter and incisor space of the treatment group and the control group all increased. The increase of arch width, incisor space and arch perimeter in the treatment group was significantly greater than that in the control group. 1.Slow maxillary expansion with a removable expansion appliance could significantly increase the arch width, incisor space and arch perimeter, and alleviate dentition congestion. 2.Slow maxillary expansion could improve the position of maxillary canines and premolars in the jaw, which was conducive to tooth eruption. The results of this study could not prove that slow maxillary expansion could be used as an interceptive approach for impacted maxillary canines and premolars.
