3D Printing Helps Preserve Dental Pulp In Tooth Transplantation

This study presents a 3D Printing-Aidded surgical approach to preparing the receiving socket for a mature mandibular third molar donor tooth and try to preserve dental pulp. A 29-year-old woman developed root resorption of tooth 3.7. Extraction of 3.7 and autotransplantation of 3.8 was planned. Due to the differention between the compromised and donor teeth, the receiving socket preparation was performed using 3D printing tooth template which was designed by Mimics software. Tooth 3.7 was extracted, and tooth 3.8 was transplanted into the new socket in 1’7" of extra-alveolar time. We devoted to preserve dental pulp other than routine root canal therapy. Three-month follow-up radiological control showed no periapical lesion or root resorption. But the patient complains occlusal discomfort, the Pulp viability tests showed no response. Pulp cavity access was established to examine the pulp status, we found the mesial root pulp was necrotic, but the distal root pulp was still alive. Vital pulpotomy was established to the distal root pulp to preserve partial pulp vitality; root canal therapy was performed to proximal root canal to prevent further inflammation.During three years follow-up, occlusal relation reconstruction realized, radiological control does not show any periapical lesion or root resorption. 3D Printing-Aidded Surgery Helps preserve dental pulp in Tooth Transplantation by reduce the extra-alveolar time. This case provide a new attempt for the preservation of vital pulp in tooth transplantation.
