Effect Of Non-Surgical Therapy On Risk Grade Of Periodontitis
To evaluate the effect of non-surgical therapy and systemic factors control on periodontitis. Florida probe was used to track the changes of periodontal indicators and risk grade. Patients with chronic periodontitis were collected from June 2020 to June 2023. The patients who were evaluated as high-risk by Florida probe were included in the study. The study subjects were arranged to undergo oral hygiene instruction and control systemic risk factors (including giving up smoking, treating diabetes etc.). Non-surgical periodontal treatment (including scaling and root planing) was performed. The probing depth (PD) and periodontal risk assessment (PRA) were assessed at 6 months, 1 year, 2 years, and 3 years. During three years of follow-up, 15.07% of high risk patients were reduced to low level and 48.63% of high risk patients were reduced to medium level. Periodontitis improve more obviously in low PRA level group than higher group, PD improved from baseline 3.49mm±0.34 to 1.65mm±0.49 and 2.99mm±0.45. In this study, non-surgical therapy and systemic risk factors control can effectively improve the periodontal status and reduce the overall risk grade of periodontitis.
