Finite Element Analysis Of Tooth Movement Influenced By Attachment Positions

The effects of different positions of attachment designs on the initial three-dimensional displacement of anterior and posterior teeth and the equivalent stress distribution in the periodontal ligament during maxillary expansion with Clear aligner therapy were studied by finite element analysis. The findings provide reference in orthodontic treatment planning for maxillary expansion with Clear aligner therapy. CBCT image data of one patient were obtained according to the inclusion criteria. The three-dimensional finite element model of the maxilla, maxillary dentition, periodontal ligament, attachments, and clear aligner-based maxillary arch expander was developed . Maxillary bilateral first molars and premolars were simulated for 0.2 mm expansion via the clear aligner. The initial three-dimensional displacements of the anterior and posterior teeth and the equivalent von Mises stress distribution in the periodontal ligament were analyzed under six different attachment configurations 1. Three-dimensional displacement trends of maxillary posterior teeth across six groups: In the horizontal direction, molars and premolars demonstrated buccal inclination movements; anteroposteriorly, molars and premolars exhibited mesial inclination movements; vertically, molars showed absolute intrusion, while premolars displayed relative intrusion. 2. displacement trends of maxillary posterior teeth across six groups: In the horizontal direction, canines and incisors demonstrated distal inclination movements; anteroposteriorly, canines exhibited labial inclination while incisors showed palatal inclination; vertically, canines experienced relative intrusion and incisors displayed relative extrusion. The buccal side of resulted in smaller displacements of teeth. In contrast, adding attachments to the palatal side increased the buccal displacements of posterior teeth.
