Severely Full-Arch Deep Overbite Treated With Clear Aligners
Deep overbite treatment has always been a challenge in orthodontics, especially for full-arch deep overbite cases. Traditional fixed orthodontic methods achieve better results, but they often compromise comfort and aesthetics, leading to a poor patient experience during treatment. Additionally, conventional wisdom suggests that clear aligners are not conducive to treating deep overbites or low-angle cases. This case report describes the successful treatment of an adult patient with low-angle and full-arch deep overbite by clear aligner. A 23-year-old female presented with full-arch deep overbite, distoclusion relationships of molars and canines, gummy smile and dental crowding. Orthodontic treatment included the following steps:(1) selection of orthodontic Appliances were angelalign Pro(Angelalign Technology Inc.).(2)correction of posterior deep overbite, with maxillary and mandibular arch expansion and uprighting of mandibular posterior teeth.(3)correction of anterior deep overbite and gummy smile, with Intrusion and retraction of maxillary and mandibular anterior teeth.(4)improvement of the occlusion, with extraction of teeth 18 and 48,utilized skeletal anchorage screws to achieve distal movement of maxillary molars and establish neutroclusion.(5)correction of the crowding and alignment of the teeth after distalization of maxillary arch, expansion of mandibular, and labial tipping of mandibular anterior teeth. This case demonstrates that clear aligners can achieve a good treatment outcome through meticulous planning, material-specific biomechanics, and patient compliance. The success challenges the conventional belief that clear aligners are less effective for deep overbite and low-angle patients.
