Influence Of Supracrestal Tissue Height On Marginal Bone Level

This study aims to evaluate radiographically the impact of supracrestal tissue height on marginal bone loss in platform - switching posterior implants. Fifty posterior implant restoration cases were enrolled. Cone - beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans were taken before surgery, after implant insertion, before re - entry surgery, and at 1 - year follow - up. Supracrestal tissue height (STH), implant position, marginal bone loss, abutment height, use of angled abutments, and prosthesis emergence angle were evaluated. Significant marginal bone loss was observed in cases where STH < 2mm. Although more marginal bone loss was seen in cases with angled abutments, the difference was not statistically significant. Abutment height < 2mm was associated with significantly more marginal bone loss. The prosthesis emergence angle had no impact on marginal bone loss. Marginal bone loss appears to be influenced by supracrestal tissue height in relation to implant position, as well as abutment height and angle. However, further well - controlled studies are required to validate these findings across different implant designs and connections.
