MDT Approach To A Complex Adult Dental Case
A 41-year-old female patient with multiple missing teeth, damaged crowns, and a shortened lower facial third was treated through a MDT approach integrating holistic thinking principles. The goal was to achieve functional restoration and aesthetic harmony. The patient had undergone porcelain-fused-to-metal crown restorations 20 years prior but presented with fractured crowns, poor occlusion, facial asymmetry, multiple missing teeth, and caries. After comprehensive evaluation, three treatment options were proposed. The final plan included: Removal of all 18 existing prostheses, temporary resin single-crown restorations on abutment teeth, and digital simulation to vertically elevate the occlusion by 3 mm. Orthodontic treatment to align tilted teeth, adjust missing tooth spaces, reconstruct occlusion, and level the dental arch. Restoration of 7 missing teeth with 6 implants. Post-orthodontic digital fabrication of zirconia crowns and simultaneous implant superstructure restoration. Use of a Hawley retainer to maintain stability. This case highlights the integration of "holistic thinking" and MDT, prioritizing patient-centered care. It involved orthodontics, implantology, prosthodontics, and endodontics to resolve complex oral issues. The patient achieved complete dental arch integrity, stable occlusion, and an aesthetically pleasing smile, significantly improving quality of life.
