Residual Dental Capsule Influence On Adjacent Teeth‘S Peridontal Health
To study the effect of residual alveolar capsule on the periodontal health of adjacent teeth after the extraction of mandibular third molar. A split mouth study of 82 patients with bilateral mandibular third molar extraction were conducted: group A (dental capsule tissue was curetted) and group B (dental capsule tissue was not treated). Operation time and complications were recorded. Clinical and imaging examinations were performed at 6 months postoperative to evaluate the periodontal indexes and alveolar bone height of mandibular second molar (M2-DABH), and compare the differences between two groups. The median depth of the second molar in group A was better than that in group B (P < 0.05). The median loss of distal attachment of the second molar in group A was lower than that in group B (P < 0.05). The distance between the distal alveolar crest of the second molar in group A and the enamel cementum boundary was significantly smaller than that in group B (P < 0.05). In patients aged ≥20 years, the probability of M2-DABH returning to normal level in group A [(11/26)] was significantly higher than that in group B [ (0/26)] (P < 0.01), The removal of the residual dental capsule during the extraction of the mandibular third molar is beneficial to the recovery of the distal alveolar bone height of the second molar after surgery, especially in patients over 20 years old.
