Polyoxyethylene Lauryl Ether For The Management Of Salivary Gland Mucocele
The generalized salivary gland mucocele includes mucocele of minor salivary glands and sublingual gland cysts. Currently, the commonly used clinical treatment method is surgical resection. However, surgical treatment has high risks and causes significant trauma. Especially, the cost of losing one side of the sublingual gland for children seems rather high. Therefore, we utilize Polyoxyethylene lauryl ether for injection into the cyst cavity and the surrounding glandular tissue, taking care to avoid the submandibular gland duct during treatment. Following the injection, the drug induces damage to the tissue within the cyst cavity and the Relevant small-scale glandular tissue. During the subsequent repair process, the related fistulas are effectively repaired and sealed, thereby achieving the therapeutic goal. There were 15 patients with simple sublingual gland cysts (excluding extraoral and dumbbell types), consisting of 10 males and 5 females, aged between 16 and 32 years. Additionally, there were 10 patients with small mucous gland cysts of the lower lip, including 8 males and 2 females, aged between 12 and 47 years. All sublingual gland cysts were treated with injections of foaming agents, while all lower lip mucous gland mucocele received injections of 1% Polyoxyethylene lauryl ether solution. The dosage for each injection was strictly controlled to ensure it did not exceed 100 mg. After a single injection treatment, none of the patients experienced recurrence. Local injection of Polyoxyethylene lauryl ether represents a promising and viable treatment option for the clinical management of salivary gland mucoceles.
