Thermohydraulic Lumped Parameter Models for Direct Battery Cooling
This study explores the use of passive flow guider structures to improve thermal management in prismatic lithium-ion battery cells under non-uniform heat flux conditions. Using lumped parameter thermal simulations, the temperature distributions are evaluated for both insulating and conductive flow guider materials. Results show that flow guiders enhance cooling by disrupting boundary layers, with conductive versions further reducing temperature peaks. The design that directs the coolant straight to the hotspot region performs best, however it may be less adaptable to variations in the heat flux. These findings support the integration of tailored flow guiders in battery cooling systems to improve temperature uniformity and extend cell lifespan.
