Poetic Bridge Without Borders: An Analysis of the Landscape and Roles in the Cross-Cultural Interaction between Yevgeny Yevtushenko and Chinese Scholars
This study focuses on the cross-cultural interaction between the Russian poet Yevgeny Yevtushenko and the Chinese literary community. Unlike existing research that emphasizes the translation and reception of his works, this paper highlights his role as a cultural ambassador, promoting friendly relations between Russia and China through direct exchanges with Chinese and Russian scholars (such as Yevtushenko's visits to China and discussions with Chinese scholars and poets about poetic concepts). The aim of the research is to systematically organize and reconstruct the historical landscape of this interaction, examining its specific forms, developmental context, and impacts, in order to fill the existing gap in studies related to a comprehensive understanding of the interaction and an in-depth exploration of core roles. This research employs a combination of historical document analysis and textual studies. Based on relevant primary sources (such as letters, discussion records, prefaces to articles, etc.), a systematic critical reconstruction is conducted to objectively restore the interaction process. At the same time, combining discourse and cognitive analysis, the trajectory of interaction practices is traced chronologically to explore its internal logic and role evolution. The innovation of this research lies in breaking through the limitations of previous studies, systematically depicting and deeply analyzing Yevtushenko's interactions with China from a cross-cultural perspective for the first time. This study concludes that this interaction constitutes a long-term and multifaceted process of cross-cultural communication. Yevtushenko plays multiple roles in this process: as a promoter of grassroots interactions, he establishes personal connections and facilitates the development of relations between the two countries; as a participant in academic cooperation, he provides research materials and promotes collaboration in the field of literary studies; as an exchanger of poetic concepts, he engages in dialogue about poetry, fostering theoretical mutual understanding; and as a voice on public issues, his concern for human destiny resonates with China's hopes for peace. This interaction highlights the role of literature in transcending ideological barriers and fostering deep cultural understanding, providing valuable academic resources for cultural exchanges between China and Russia.
