Management of High Degrees of Astigmatism in Ectasia Using Toric Intraocular Lens and Femtolaser-assisted Limbal Relaxing Incisions: A Case Report
Multiple options exist in the management of an astigmatic patient undergoing cataract surgery.Toric intraocular lenses (IOLs) are a popular option and transform regular cataract surgery into a true refractive procedure, leading to spectacle independence. While typically used for patients with regular astigmatism, patients with irregular corneas can benefit greatly as well.We report a case of high corneal astigmatism managed with a toric IOL and femtolaser-assisted limbal relaxing incisions (LRIs) as a staged procedure, initially keeping LRIs intrastromal to see the effect on refraction, followed by opening them.Astigmatism was initially -12 diopter (D) on corneal topography and was -2.5 D after the procedures.
