More than a glance at the ocean: international law, seabed mining, and the monetary nature of capitalism

Abstract The article draws on Rosa Luxemburg to examine current legal developments concerning seabed mining. Building on the macro-monetary reading of capitalism that Luxemburg developed in The Accumulation of Capital and the Anti-Critique, the analysis casts doubt on the international law of the sea’s alignment with the contradictions inherent in capitalist production.
