ViMeR: a free software application to support interval-based video-mediated recall

Video-mediated recall (VMR) procedures are used to collect time-varying data on individuals’ experienced or perceived emotions, thoughts and behavior throughout a social interaction or individual task. In this article, we introduce ViMeR, a software application for the implementation of interval-based VMR. It allows individuals to report on their experiences or perceptions during (part of a) task while viewing (segments of) the videorecording of that task. Several settings of ViMeR can be easily adapted to fit the researchers’ needs and aims. We illustrate the use and usability of ViMeR with data from a study in which partners from romantic couples used the software to report on their experiences during lab-based interactions. By making ViMeR freely available, we aim to facilitate the implementation of VMR procedures for researchers who want to obtain a deeper understanding of how individuals experience and perceive their social interactions and individual tasks.
