Development of super-solidus heat treatments for the second-generation single-crystal Ni-based superalloy ERBO/1: Experiments and 1D kinetic simulations

Super-solidus hot isostatic pressing heat treatments are particularly beneficial for single-crystal superalloys, which exhibit highly segregated microstructures after casting, because they not only contribute to reducing chemical heterogeneities in a considerable shorter time compared to the conventional heat treatment route, but also enhance mechanical properties such as creep. The use of 1D kinetic simulations to define key heat treatment parameters can simplify and reduce the costs of their definition, which has so far been achieved through tedious trial-and-error experimental programs. This work demonstrates that DICTRA simulations provide an effective approach for the design of advanced super-solidus hot isostatic pressing heat treatments for ERBO/1, second-generation single-crystal superalloy, balancing processing efficiency with the need for sufficient homogenization and defect removal. • Super-solidus HTs improve microstructural quality and shorten processing time • DICTRA simulations enable rapid optimization of super-solidus heat treatments • SSHIP is an efficient heat treatment for high-performance superalloy components
