Densiron 68 oil endotamponade in complex retinal detachment cases: A case series
Abstract: This case series evaluated the outcomes and complications associated with Densiron™ endotamponade in the management of complex rhegmatogenous retinal detachments (RRD) involving inferior pathology. We conducted a retrospective case series involving four patients who underwent pars plana vitrectomy with Densiron™ tamponade between July 2022 and June 2024, with a minimum follow-up of 3 months. The indications for vitrectomy included inferior RRD, retinal dialysis, pediatric population, macular hole with recurrent detachment, and endophthalmitis. The average tamponade was 41.75 days. Primary anatomical success was achieved in 75% of cases, with a final reattachment rate of 100%. All patients experienced visual improvement, with a mean LogMAR gain of 1.06. Complications identified included oil emulsification and intraocular pressure elevation in two cases, one requiring glaucoma drainage surgery. In conclusion, Densiron™ appears to be an effective tamponade agent for complex and inferior RRDs, though vigilance is required for oil-related complications and increased intraocular pressure.
