Frictional properties of 2D C/C‐SiC composites for maglev train sled applications at a speed of 600 km/h

Abstract Carbon fiber‐reinforced composites with dual carbon ‐silicon carbide matrices (C/C–SiC) exhibit excellent specific strength, wear resistance, and high‐temperature performance, making them highly promising for structural applications under severe high‐speed and heavy‐duty conditions. In this paper, the microstructure and tribological performance of twill‐weave carbon fiber reinforced C/C–SiC on a full‐size test rig at a speed of 600 km/h were investigated. Results indicate that the frictional coefficient is approximately 0.15. Moreover, microstructural analysis reveals that abrasive wear and adhesive wear were characterized in the friction surface. As the friction intensifies, fatigue wear and oxidative wear occur on the friction surface. Moreover, in the most severely friction‐induced surface region, delamination wear, along with fatigue wear and oxidative wear, can be observed.
