Idyllic horse farm in New York helps youth recover
“The Farm” is just one program out of many operated by THRIVE Wellness and Recovery in upstate New York. We visited last week, and spoke with April Beamer‐Breen, Director of Residential Services, and Craig Frederick, Residential Rehabilitation Services for Youth Program Director. Both are CASACs (Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselors). Our tour included the barn where the horses were all happy to be petted, and the house where youth study and work on their treatment. We visited on a Saturday, and accompanied by two friendly golden retrievers, learned about how the program works.
