Modern approaches to formation people eating behavior using digital technologies and artificial intelligence

Formation of healthy eating behavior plays an important role in prevention of many chronic diseases. Study of digital technologies and artificial intelligence application in order to develop and maintain healthy eating behavior is of particular importance in the context of active digitalization of health care system. Objective. To investigate current approaches and practical experience of digital technologies and artificial intelligence use for correction of eating behavior, prevention and treatment of diseases associated with eating disorders. Materials and methods. A systematic review of scientific literature devoted to digital technologies and artificial intelligence application in the eating behavior formation was carried out. The search for publications was performed in PubMed, MedLine, Google and eLibrary databases for the period from January 2015 to June 2025. The analysis included randomized controlled trials, systematic reviews and meta-analyses. Results. It has been found that the use of artificial intelligence technologies, mobile applications, wearable devices and digital platforms contributes to more accurate diagnosis of eating behavior, increase of motivation to change behavior, weight loss and metabolic indicators improvement. Personalized recommendations based on data on physical activity, microbiota and individual food preferences are of particular interest. Positive effect is achieved in teenagers and children when using gamified solutions. However, issues on ethics, data confidentiality as well as the need to validate many digital tools remain unresolved. Their integration into practice requires interdisciplinary approach and further studies focused on improvement of evidence base and clinical effectiveness are needed. Conclusions. Digital technologies and artificial intelligence have great potential for transformation of approaches to the prevention and treatment of eating disorders.
