Insight into limbal dermoid management: Surgical case series
Abstract Dermoids are congenital lesions present in abnormal location. According to type and location, ocular dermoids can be divided into two parts: superficial and deep. We treated 3 eyes of 3 patients with 3 different methods of surgeries. Preoperative visual acuity, postoperative recovery time, cosmetic improvements, and patient compliance were reviewed. Patients maintained stable visual acuity throughout the follow-ups. Within a week, wound healing and epithelization were observed, along with a reduction in the patient’s discomfort. A cosmetic outcome shows improvement, particularly in terms of corneal opacity and conjunctival vascularization. In addition, all patients were satisfied with the cosmetic results with no complications. Dermoid excision with (1) corneal tattooing, (2) amniotic membrane graft, and (3) anterior lamellar keratoplasty can lead to satisfactory outcome. Patients have better compliance and early postoperative recovery without complications for different grades of limbal dermoids.
