Duration of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation support and survival outcomes: a retrospective analysis for lung transplant recipients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis
In IPF patients receiving LTx, ECMO duration demonstrates a strong nonlinear association with mortality. Longer duration of ECMO support serves as a robust indicator of underlying disease severity and postoperative complications predicting poor outcomes. The identified thresholds (0.8 and 5.54 days) provide clinically relevant markers for risk stratification and prognostication. Future prospective studies are needed to validate these inflection points and clarify interactions between ECMO duration, patient factors, and outcomes.
