Evaluating the Impact of Digital Technologies on Architectural Design Education: A Study on Learning Efficiency and Student Practice at Mansoura University, Egypt
Integrating digital technologies has become essential to both architectural practice and education. However, effectively utilizing these technologies within the educational curriculum to enhance the skills of students and graduates remains a challenge, despite their potential to bridge academic and professional gaps in managing architectural project complexity. The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of these technologies in practice through selected academic courses at the undergraduate and premaster’s levels in enhancing the learning skills of students while comparing the impact and preferences of each group. The methodology was based on a mixed-methods approach, integrating coursework and a survey-based assessment for Mansoura University undergraduate and premaster’s architecture students. Ten learning skills were used as evaluation criteria, and the results were analyzed using descriptive statistics and ANOVA. The results showed the impact of five digital technologies on architectural education for undergraduate and premaster’s students, highlighting distinct perceptions between the two groups regarding the effectiveness of these tools in their experience. The study highlights the importance of updating architectural curricula based on students’ educational levels and needs, guided by practical experience-based assessments, incorporating a structured digital integration roadmap, emphasizing project-based and collaborative learning, and aligning with industry standards.
