Adaptation into Russian of the method of orientation towards environmentally friendly consumption ("Green Scale" K.L. Haws, K.P. Winterich, R.W. Naylor)
Interest in preserving the natural environment is becoming more and more conscious and independent. People are proactively showing activity in the field of preserving natural resources, are ready to spend time on separate waste collection, and get involved in situations of defending the environmental interests of society and the state. In response to the environmental orientation in people's behavior, psychological assessment tools are emerging that measure people's readiness to demonstrate the values of environmental behavior, expressed in specific purchasing habits and attitudes toward what is happening to the natural environment. One of such tools is the Green Scale, a method of environmentally friendly consumption values developed by K.L. Haws, K.P. Winterich, and R.W. Naylor in 2013. This work is devoted to the psychometric adaptation of the Green Scale on a Russian-language sample. The statements were translated from English into Russian, and their difficulty and discriminability were assessed. Next, the validity of the method was calculated based on its comparison with methods measuring thematically similar constructs: 1) the environmental concern scale by W. Schultz adapted by A.A. Ivanova, T.M. Shevel, F. Agisova, and N.A. Patrakova, 2) the pro-ecological motivation scale by A.A. Ivanova, T.M. Reliability by consistency was also calculated. The obtained results allow us to consider the adapted version of the “Green Scale” method suitable for use in practical and research activities.
