CourseDemandR: A statistical analysis and scenario-based planning tool for general education curriculum planning

CourseDemandR is an open-source Shiny application that supports data-informed General Education (GE) curriculum planning via exploratory, statistical, and scenario-based analyses. It complements existing standard institutional dashboards by addressing their inflexibility and limited analytical depth, offering insight into capacity and demand that are connected to GE structures. Although originally developed for GE curriculum planning, CourseDemandR has a generalizable schema based on enrollment, capacity, and curricular tag data, making it adaptable with minimal modification to a wide range of curricular contexts. Its analytical framework can be applied across departments or institutions, enabling reproducible and collaborative curriculum analytics. CourseDemandR also offers correlation views that can be interpreted in relation to pedagogical goals, accreditation requirements, access considerations, and other institutional priorities. The software is released under an MIT license, with full source code, documentation, and a sample dataset available on GitHub and Zenodo.
