Mesoporous Carbon: A Versatile Adsorbent and Catalyst with Techno-Economic and Life Cycle Perspectives
Every day, wastewater pollution increases, leading to the use of various approaches that disregard the stability of the product and its economic implications. The utilization of a product for energy issues and multienvironment domains should be the main focus. Regarding the stability and economics of mesoporous activated carbon made from various feedstocks, the life cycle approach and techno-economic analysis (TEA) are examined. The synthesis of mesoporous carbon, commercially and on a lab scale, and its price are also discussed. Life cycle assessment (LCA) and TEA are integrated into mesoporous carbon. Global warming during the production of carbon is explained by the global warming potential (GWP) value. Net present value (NPV), payout period (POP), operating expenditure (OPEX), and capital expenditure (CAPEX) are described for the economic calculation of mesoporous carbon and feedstock materials. The applicability of mesoporous carbon in the fields of adsorption, catalysis, supercapacitors, fuel cells, solar energy, and lithium-ion batteries is discussed by using the TEA–LCA approach.
