Case report: fetal hemangioendothelioma in a pregnant patient with gestational diabetes mellitus
Abstract Background Fetal hepatic hemangioendothelioma is a rare vascular tumor that can be detected prenatally using advanced imaging techniques. This study presents a case involving the diagnosis and management of hepatic hemangioendothelioma in an infant born to a mother with gestational diabetes. Case presentation. We present the case of a 34-year-old primigravida (G1) at 37 weeks and 5 days of gestation, who was diagnosed with fetal liver lesions during a routine prenatal ultrasound. The patient has a history of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) managed through dietary measures and underwent a comprehensive evaluation and follow-up. Following delivery at 38 weeks of gestation, the neonate was diagnosed with hepatic hemangioendothelioma, a rare benign vascular tumor of the liver. Conclusion This case emphasizes the significance of prenatal imaging in detecting fetal anomalies and highlights the necessity for multidisciplinary care in managing pregnancies complicated by fetal liver lesions.
