Prévention et prise en charge des chutes chez les personnes âgées au 21e siècle
Falls are common events whose risk increases with age warranting systematic screening in all individuals aged 65 and older. Identifying clinical severity factors and assessing gait and balance through standardized tools allows precise risk stratification. The 2022 global guidelines define three risk levels (low, intermediate, high), guiding etiological assessment and management. In Switzerland, several geriatric services, both outpatient and inpatient, have adapted their protocols accordingly. In Geneva, these guidelines are implemented in a new Center for Fall Prevention and Management dedicated to patients aged 65 and over with a history or risk of falls. This article outlines the key recommendations and their clinical application.
