Hypotension orthostatique du sujet âgé
Orthostatic hypotension is common and often underdiagnosed in elderly patients. It is defined as a drop in blood pressure when moving from a lying to a standing position. Possible symptoms include falls, dizziness, syncope, or confusion. In elderly individuals, the causes include aging, medication side effects, dehydration, but also neurological causes, as in younger patients. The management of orthostatic hypotension requires an evaluation of underlying factors and involves both non-pharmacological and specific pharmacological interventions. The objective of this approach is not only to reduce morbidity and mortality, but also to improve the quality of life of the affected elderly patients.
