Optimization of Hybrid Micro/Nano‐SiO 2 Particle Ratios for Enhancing Mechanical Performance of Aramid Composites: Optimization and Validation Using Taguchi and ANOVA Analyses

Herein, hybrid‐reinforced structures are developed using micro‐/nanosized SiO 2 particles to compare and evaluate their effects on the mechanical performance of ballistic‐grade aramid fiber‐reinforced composites. The combined use of micro‐ and nanosized SiO 2 particles generates a synergistic effect, enhancing the overall mechanical performance by simultaneously limiting crack propagation through microparticles and strengthening the fiber–matrix interface via nanoparticles. Tensile, three‐point bending, and drop‐weight impact tests are performed on composite samples produced with different ratios of micro‐ and nano‐SiO 2 additives. The ultimate tensile strength of the sample containing only 2 wt% microadditives increases by 13.3%, whereas the sample containing only 2 wt% nanoadditives increases by 33.3% compared to the neat composite. The 1 wt% micro and 2 wt% nanohybrid additive sample shows the highest improvement, reaching 35%. The highest value in bending tests is measured in the 2 wt% micro and 1 wt% nanohybrid sample, and a 29% increase is achieved compared to the neat composite. The 2 wt% micro and 1 wt% nanohybrid sample shows 25.5% higher impact resistance compared to the neat composite. Statistical analyses, including Taguchi and analysis of variance analysis highlight the synergistic contribution of micro‐ and nanoadditives.
