Quantum-Mechanical Simulation of Free Induction Decay for the Magnetic Centers on a Spherical Nanoparticle

A direct numerical solution to the Schrödinger equation for spins systems is used to study the free induction decay (FID) of diamagnetic nanospheres modified by depositing atoms with a non-zero magnetic moment. Simulations show that 10–14 particles in the system are sufficient to describe FID and characteristic relaxation time with reasonable accuracy. The obtained results agree with calculations based on moments.

Abstract

A direct numerical solution to the Schrödinger equation for spins systems is used to study the free induction decay (FID) of diamagnetic nanospheres modified by depositing atoms with a non-zero magnetic moment. Simulations show that 10–14 particles in the system are sufficient to describe FID and characteristic relaxation time with reasonable accuracy. The obtained results agree with calculations based on moments.
