Description of Enterovibrio litoreus sp. nov., isolated from a river estuary

Strain 27052020OT was isolated from a river estuary. The sequence of the strain's 16S rRNA gene showed a close evolutionary relationship with bacteria in the genus <i>Enterovibrio</i>, family <i>Vibrionaceae</i>. The strain's phenotypic and chemotaxonomic features were investigated, revealing that it can be distinguished from the type strains of related <i>Enterovibrio</i> species by its inability to assimilate mannitol. Sequencing revealed that the strain genome consists of two chromosomes (3.52 and 1.48 Mbp), for a total of 4.998 Mbp. Calculations of the average nucleotide identities and results of phylogenetic analyses based on whole-genome sequence data showed that the strain represents a previously unrecognized species in the genus <i>Enterovibrio</i>, for which we propose the name <i>Enterovibrio litoreus</i> sp. nov. with the type strain 27052020OT (=LMG 33508T=JCM 36616T).
