The convergence of internet of things and electric vehicles: A path toward smarter charging solutions

The increased adoption of Electric Vehicles (EVs) necessitates the design of efficient, scalable, and intelligent power supply units. The Internet of Things (IoT) has been a game-changing technology in this segment, providing real-time sensing of data, monitoring, and optimizing charging activities to make them smarter. This study presents trends in IoT-based charging stations for EVs and their role in smart energy dispatch, load balancing, remote monitoring, and integration of renewable energies. Furthermore, the study highlights the primary challenges of scaling and implementing IoT-based systems, including cost ineffectiveness, interoperability issues, and security concerns. IoT-based systems depend upon real-time data processing for predictive maintenance and real-time pricing. Pain points are the data deluge and latency. This survey examines these emerging trends and issues to understand how IoT will impact EV infrastructure and how current limitations can be addressed.
