The Novel Strategies for the Construction of Homoallylic Alcohols via Photoredox Catalysis

The importance of homoallylic alcohols were reflected in the development of remarkable synthetic strategies and the discovery of novel reactivities that enable access to complex molecular targets. Compared to the traditional pathway, the booming single‐electron transfer pathway has demonstrated remarkable potential for the construction of valuable and otherwise difficult to synthesized homoallylic alcohols. Especially, photoredox catalysis has emerged as a alternative and prospective protocol for the synthesis of homoallylic alcohol via radical pathway owing to mild reaction conditions, lower activation energy, eco‐friendly, and excellent compatibility. Thus, this review systematically summarizes the recent important advances in the synthesis of homoallylic alcohols through photoredox catalysis. It categorizes these advancements according to the distinct catalytic methods, providing a concise analysis of substrate scopes, limitations, and mechanistic explores, as well as their applications in the construction of various functionalized molecules, natural products, pharmaceuticals, or bioactive molecules. Furthermore, key challenges and emerging opportunities are highlighted to guide the development of novel strategies and expand their practical applications.
